Garamendi Honors Student who Saved Two Lives from Drowning on Fox 2

Last week, I hosted a maritime summit bringing together senior maritime leaders, local officials, and industry executives in Vallejo. During the summit, I gave Zion, a remarkable young man and senior cadet at Cal Poly Maritime who showed extraordinary courage, a congressional commendation. When he saw two people struggling in the water and in danger of drowning, Zion didn’t hesitate. He bravely stepped in and helped rescue them, putting their safety before his own. His quick thinking, courage, and willingness to act in a moment of crisis are a powerful reminder of what true bravery looks like. Zion has a bright future ahead of him, and I’m honored to recognize a young man who has already made such a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
